DESTINATION: WASHINGTON DC/BALTIMORE

Life is a breeze during the weekend we refer to as the last of summer. This Labor Day, I ventured south to the almost perfectly patriotic city of DC. A late night check in to The Melrose Georgetown Hotel was graciously rewarded with an upgrade to their Presidential Suite. Check out their restaurant Jardenea.

Or if it's late, a 20 minute walk from said hotel, will get you to the fantastic Hank's Oyster Bar in Dupont Circle. In addition to brunch, lunch and dinner, they also offer a late-night menu. Get there for 1/2 off small plates and raw bar during their happy hour (5-7pm or 10pm-12am).

Still hungry? Opt for a heartier bite at The Diner - open 24/7. Food an entertainment go hand-in-hand here situated in the center of Adams Morgan (think St. Marks, Bourbon Street, South Street).

I had to take in the private terrace that came with the room. If you want to follow my lead, I suggest a quiet and relaxing morning in. I stocked up at the Trader Joe's across the street for bubbly and OJ. Pair that with room service, and breakfast/brunch is served!

I won't spend a lot of time writing negative comments on any place, but I will put a disclaimer on the Crab Cake Cafe in Inner Harbor. I was looking to fill my fixation for a superior Maryland Crab Cake. They did have a version on their menu, however, neglected to include that their crab is outsourced from Venezuela. Needless to say, I moved on...

Way on - to Baltimore! From one Inner Harbor to another, B'more offers the Thames Street Oyster House - a local haunt that strives to serve the freshest regional catches amidst a breathtaking view anytime of day. At long last, my crab cake was just one of many out of this world (or water) dishes. How can one resist the Grilled Watermelon and Fresh Pasta (Cavatelli pasta, house made ricotta, basil, charred watermelon sauce)?
